Austin
with a population of 796,310 in 2010 saw their robbery incidents
decline from 1,415 in 2009 to 1,231 in 2010 the rate is 159 robberies
per 100,000 residents, which is a decrease from last years rate of 184.
Austin’s
property crime in 2009 was 48,026 and in 2010 was 45,826 this
represents a 5% decrease in incidents. The only startling find was that
Austin’s murder rate grew 82% from 22 in 2009 to 40 in 2010.
In a comparison to Austin,
Jacksonville, Florida with a 2010 population of 822,414, saw their
property crime rates fall from 41,781 in 2009 to 37,424 in 2010 an
average of about 11%.
The Jacksonville community also saw a reduction in the crime categories
of violent crime with a near 20% decrease, robbery incidents showed a
huge decline from 2009 with 2,359 to 1,693 in 2010 a 28% fall.
In
the same regional area as Austin, San Antonio with a population of
1,392,198 in 2010, saw the their burglary incidents fall from 18,164 in
2009 to 17,298 in 2010. This decline in burglary was almost 5% along
with robberies and property crime incidents.

Dallas had a population of 1,306,775 in 2010 which makes Dallas the
second largest city in Texas with just about 254 neighborhoods. In 2009
property crime incidents were at 71,364 and fell to 64,125 in 2010. The
decline in property crime rates of 10% was followed by robbery, violent
crimes, and Larceny theft.
There was a slight increase in burglary incidents 19,428 in 2009 and
inflated to 19,594 in 2010. Overall Dallas’ crime rate is down 10.2%
from 2009, also 2010 was the 7th consecutive year of overall crime
reduction, and was the 9th consecutive year of violent crime reduction.
Los Angeles with a population of 3,841,707 in 2010 saw a slight
reduction in property crimes that were 94,240 in 2009 and now are 89,704
in 2010 which is about a 5% decrease.
In Los Angeles there were additional crime related reductions such as
robbery, which was above 10% and also burglary of about 5.6%. According
to the LAPD city-wide crime is down 6.9%, compared to 2009 in the eight
categories: homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assaults, burglary,
BTFV, personal/other theft, and auto theft.
Sacramento, with a population of 472,469 in 2010 saw their robbery crime
rate drop from 1,606 in 2009 to 1,491. This reduction in robberies was
an average of 7%, and violent crimes only dropped
1.3%. Both violent and property crimes combined here are pretty high on average and are major contributors to the crime rate.
